Hurricane coverings, commonly known as shutters, are used in hurricane mitigation to protect houses and other structures from damage caused by storms.

Plywood is a type of manufactured wood made from thin sheets of wood. The layers are glued together so that adjacent plies have their wood grain at right angles to each other for greater strength. There are usually an odd number of plies, as symmetry makes the board less prone to warping.

My View of Wilma

My Tiny Cottage "The Happy Palm" had plywood covering 1 big window in the kitchen, a huge hurricane shutter was dropped over my big slider also in the kitchen. It covered all but about 2 feet which I crawled under in the middle of the storm to check on my car and feel 115 mph winds. I also have a metal door I peaked out to discover the 50 year old Avacado tree had been blown over. This window was not covered during the hurricane and this was my view during the storm. You can see the power & phone lines (there are 3) that slapped on my Happy Palm almost the whole time. I could also see turquoise light flashing just beyond my fence, and tree limbs breaking.

Getting ready for Tropical Storm Fay (which turned out to just be one big rainstorm for my town). This is the back door... finally upgrading from plywood!
